Write Ahead is always searching for energetic, intellectually curious individuals who enjoy working with children and teens and are looking for flexible, part-time work that is both engaging and rewarding.

Our instructors lead small, discussion-based classes that focus on building strong analytical writing skills in a supportive, engaging environment. We provide training and curriculum materials, so instructors can focus on working closely with students rather than planning lessons from scratch.
 

This is a flexible, part-time, after-school position, ideal for individuals who are looking for meaningful work that fits into their afternoons or evenings.

  • Job Type: Part-time (a few hours per week)

  • Location: Remote (Zoom-based)

  • Pay: $25/hour during training → $40–$150/hour after training

About Write Ahead

Write Ahead is an extracurricular writing program for students in grades 4–12, focused on building strong analytic writing skills (how to develop and prove an argument). Our approach is based on SRSD, a research-backed explicit-instruction methodology proven to significantly improve student writing.

Position Overview

We are seeking dynamic, intellectually curious instructors to teach analytic writing in a highly interactive online environment. This is a very part-time role—ideal for individuals who love literature, enjoy working with students, can provide real-time feedback on writing, and thrive in energetic, discussion-based settings.

  • Teach 1–5 hours/week during the school year

  • Teach 2–20 hours/week (2–6 weeks) over the summer

  • Fully remote

  • No formal teaching experience required

  • Work with motivated students in small groups using Zoom and Google Docs

Schedule Requirements

Must be available during some of the following times:

  • Sunday–Thursday evenings

  • 4:00–11:00 PM EST or 6:00–9:00 PM PST

Responsibilities: Improve Students’ Writing Quality and Depth

  • Teach analytic writing classes via Zoom using the provided curriculum

  • Lead engaging discussions and push students to think deeply

  • Create a focused, high-energy online classroom environment

  • Provide real-time feedback that is encouraging yet instructive 

What We’re Looking For

We are less focused on formal teaching experience and more focused on energy, intellect, and presence. Ideal candidates:

  • Strong analytic writer with excellent grammar

  • Loves literature and discussing ideas

  • High energy and engaging presence

  • Able to challenge and motivate students

  • Comfortable navigating Zoom and long Google Docs

  • Enjoys working with students in grades 4–11

  • Intellectually curious with a sense of humor

  • Willing to follow a structured, proven teaching method

No formal teaching experience required. We welcome smart, engaging individuals who can connect with students and elevate their writing.

Training & Growth

  • Paid training (6-8 months): $25/hour

  • Post-training pay: $40–$150/hour, based on performance and experience

  • Ongoing development in a proven writing pedagogy

  • 3-minute video: introduce yourself + share your favorite book and why

  • A color-coded analytic paragraph (under 200 words) that develops and proves an argument. A paragraph you wrote, or a paragraph you guided a student to write, will work. Please specify which one it is and the student's grade. Please use the following highlighting scheme: 

    • Thesis: Green

    • Evidence: Yellow

    • Detailed Analysis: Orange

    • Ending: red

    • Please bold strong vocabulary.
